Price Optimization Framework for Automotive Revenue and Volume Steering

Problem and Context

A multi-market automotive sales organization wanted to define more effective vehicle pricing by balancing revenue, contribution margin, and volume targets across markets. Pricing decisions had to respect important business rules such as clear price ladders between variants while still allowing sensible commercial trade-offs. The challenge mattered because rigid rule-based pricing could leave margin unrealized, while overly flexible pricing risked undermining market logic and stakeholder confidence. Additional complexity came from creating a comparable margin view across markets, reflecting customer price sensitivity, and considering order-bank effects in the decision process.

Approach and Solution

The project developed a structured pricing framework that combined business alignment, economic logic, and iterative refinement. Working closely with stakeholders, the team defined a decision model that balanced contribution margin, expected volume response, and the commercial consequences of deviating from existing pricing rules. Historical market behavior was used to understand customer price sensitivity, while margin logic was aligned across markets. The solution was designed to support stepwise expansion and closer integration into day-to-day pricing decisions.

Results and Impact

The initiative created a more structured and economically transparent basis for pricing decisions across markets. It translated difficult pricing trade-offs into a clear decision framework, made the consequences of business-rule deviations visible, and provided a scalable foundation for broader use of ideal-price recommendations. By linking customer response, margin, and pricing discipline in one approach, the solution improved decision quality and gave business teams a clearer way to evaluate pricing scenarios.
